Education Grants from Phi Mu Foundation support the latest in educational programming for our collegiate and alumnae members.
~ Always Phi Mu ~The Always Phi Mu website, originally designed for Phi Mu seniors and young alumnae, is full of great information pertaining to careers, graduate schools, finances, etiquette and more. In addition, the site has now been updated to reach an even broader audience, serving as a resource for all alumnae.
~ The Sam Spady Story ~The Sam Spady program was provided by Phi Mu Foundation for Phi education in our collegiate chapters, and has now been modified to fit the needs of Phi Mu alumnae. Sam Spady is the story of a small town girl who lost her life too soon due to the misuse of alcohol. Binge drinking kills more than 1,400 college students each year. The Sam Spady Foundation hopes that students, parents, families and friends will watch Sam’s story, learn her lesson and know when to say no.
~ ResponseAbility ~The ResponseAbility program addresses “bystander behavior” and the importance of taking action in harmful situations. The overall message is to believe in yourself, live by your values, and have the self-confidence and self-esteem to stand up for what you know is right. The Fraternity helped sponsor the program’s creation. The DVD and facilitator’s guide were made available to each chapter through a grant from Phi Mu Foundation, which will allow implementation of the program for all Phi Mu chapter members.
~ Style and Etiquette ~This fun, interactive program, which was a favorite at the 2009 Leadership Conferences, presents information on elegant living as well as debunks style and etiquette myths. Each chapter was provided Kate Spade’s books Manners and Style, through a grant from Phi Mu Foundation, to use as resources for its members.
~ Young, Fabulous & Broke ~Many poor personal financial habits are developed during the collegiate years. To combat this trend, the Fraternity and Foundation partnered to present sound financial training to our young women by building on the concepts in Suze Orman’s popular book, Young, Fabulous & Broke. Through a grant from the Foundation, each chapter received a copy of Orman’s DVD and book for further study. ~ Eaten Alive ~A one-woman dramatic monologue, Eaten Alive was presented at the 2008 National Convention and addressed the real danger – both physically and psychologically – of eating disorders.
~ Living with Alzheimer’s ~As the author of Coach Broyles' Playbook for Alzheimer's Caregivers,
Coach Frank Broyles, retired football coach and athletic director at
the University of Arkansas, understands first-hand the difficulties
that arise from this terrible disease. He was the primary caregiver for
his wife, Barbara, who suffered from Alzheimer's. Barbara was a member
of Phi Mu and a Foundation supporter as well as the beloved chapter
adviser of the Alpha Beta chapter at University of Arkansas. Recognizing the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and the tremendous impact on our membership – both directly and indirectly – Phi Mu Foundation forged a partnership with Coach Frank Broyles, retired football coach and athletic director at the University of Arkansas, for the purpose of educating the women of Phi Mu and providing helpful resources to those in need. Phi Mu Foundation is helping spread Coach Broyle's playbook nationally and developed a resource that may be used as a chapter development on Alzheimer's disease by Phi Mu chapters. Click below to view a video explaining Coach Broyles’ passion for Alzheimer’s education. Also available is a pdf of the quiz included in the chapter resource playbook and an accompanying PowerPoint.
~ Foundation Chapter Development ~An informative chapter development has been created to better educate collegiate members on the mission and reach of the Foundation. A downloadable version of the chapter development is available below. Foundation Chapter Development Guide |
